This was a pretty good read and I really liked the fact that it didn't wait until the last few pages for the makeup scenes. They settled things way before so that then we could enjoy a little more happiness and actually believe it!

This is a sexy, passionate story with enjoyable characters - I give it five stars and think you'll want to read it again despite the fact that the hero is a bit of a jerk at the beginning - he does finally come to his senses! Marcus Osborne has some issues with women ... his mother abandoned him, his beloved wife turned out to be a money hungry trollop, a fact which he unfortunately only discovered when he found her in their bed with the pool boy! So when he meets sexy socialite Justine, who flirts with all the men, he paints her with the same brush. But there's something honest and sincere about Justine that keeps shining through his preconceptions ... and soon he's wondering if perhaps he may have misjudged her and that she wasn't just a gold-digger trying to snag herself a rich husband. He's stunned to realize he loves her, and because of how they began their relationship he thinks she only wants him for the fabulous sex! What can Marcus do now? Can he make her fall in love with him so they can be together forever ... ?

Surprisingly Enjoyable Gem

I bought this HQ comic based on the mangaka's art work and reviews for the original book. I was quickly becoming disappointed after starting the manga, the 15 year age difference, mama seemed unreliable and as if she would pass out at any given moment from the vapors!

Am I glad I didn't give up and kept reading! The heroine, Justine is terrific. Even though she's young, she's head strong, capable of making mature decisions and has no problem handling the often times, assumptive, arrogant and older hero, Marcus.

The sparks fly between these two, once the hero allows himself and their chemistry is off the charts! This is one of the sexier couples I've read about in a HQ romance in a while! The heroine is extremely likeable and the hero warms up eventually and redeems himself.

The art work by this mangaka, Misao Hoshiai is simply gorgeous and blends with the story flawlessly. Kudos to both Miranda Lee and the mangaka for creating this couple and their story!

Clean, refreshing visual piece... it is obvious the authors did their sneaker research

I own several sneaker books including SOLE PROVIDER and Bobbito Garcia's WHERE'D YOU GET THOSE (both of which I recommend) and I found this book to be a refreshing alternative. Written by the guys behind CROOKED TONGUES (which is a fantastic site by the way), this book is meant for the sneaker collector who appreciates the aesthetic qualities of a shoe, rather than for someone who only buys into the hype and player endorsement. For practically every sneaker that is showcased, at least one clear photo, brief history, and random fact dedicated to each shoe. I also appreciated the effort by the authors to distinguish original editions from reissues. In addition, the sneaker "dictionary" and collecting/cleaning tips sections are great as well.

One word of caution is that I would not recommend the book for those who are only into Air Jordans, or Dunks, or swear by only one sneaker brand. The book contains information for a variety of different models and brands, some which are more obscure. For example, I found myself skipping over some Vans, Reebok, and Diadora models. The authors also have more of preference for vintage running shoes as well. But if you have an open mind and an eclectic taste in sneakers, I recommend owning this book.

This book is great to look at even if you're not into sneakers. Beautifully presented design and layout, and great history details. A good oversight of all the significant brands and their best creations.

A Fairly Comprehensive Look at Sneakers

A great look at most of the shoes in each of the major companies respective ranges. While the descriptions and info on the shoes are pretty scant, the pictures more than make up for that. The best part of running through this book is getting hit with the nostalgia that comes with seeing so many products from the not-so-distant past. A nice modern coffee table (or ottoman, I suppose) book. Air Max 1s are the best shoes ever.

My love of the Volkswagen campaign is easily explained but why is it so popular with everyone else? David, John O’Driscoll and I, first produced "Remember those great Volkswagen ads?" almost twenty years ago. Hardly a week has gone by without one of us receiving a request for a copy of it.

The creative revolution of the late fifties and early sixties produced many outstanding individual ads, even sets of ads, but this really was its first campaign, pre-dating Avis by three years or more.

The Art direction was unlike anything that had come before. It had a Bauhaus cleanliness about it. The square sharp Futura typeface was a perfect choice, it had the no-nonsense air of precision engineering. The simple, almost stark page layout visually undermined the pretentiousness of rival car ads. In Detroit size did matter, their car’s already lengthy bodies were further elongated in fanciful air brushed illustrations that had a ritzy residence or besotted blonde thrown in for good measure.

The copy also represented a radical change. Humanity replaced pomposity. The headlines would frequently ask a question rather than make a claim. They were witty and disarmingly honest. The copy agreed the Beetle was no oil painting, but boy, did it work. This artful admission of a disadvantage made the car’s advantages all the more believable. The ads were also an object lesson in single-mindedness. They set out to dramatise one truth about the product at a time, rather than parade an unwieldy list of them.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about Volkswagen is the fact that it is one of those rarest of advertising campaigns that actually becomes part of the appeal of the product itself. The Economist posters are another, more recent example. Ironically, Mr Abbott had a hand in that one too. --Alfredo Marcantonio

This Book is a LEMON

This has to be one of the best books on Advertising I've ever bought. It's right up there with "Hey Whipple, Squeeze This!". I just about wet my pants reading this - well more like "looking" at the pictures. I've always know about these ads - they're from my era - The Sixties and Seventies. They were stand-out then and they're still stand-out. I was reminded of them, of course, by the mention in MAD MEN - when Don Draper talks about the famous "Lemon" ad. What also resonates for me is that I've owned dozens of Beetles (some rare "oval rear window" models) and several Kombis - including a twin-cab pick-up (or "Ute" as we call them Downunder).

So for lovers of GREAT press ads AND Volkswagens - this book is a "must have".

an excellent book that brought back memories

This book contains several of the iconic ads for the VW beetle and wagon. It includes the script for some of the great tv commercials as well. This brought back a lot of memories when I first noticed these great advertising campaigns back in the sixties. The only problem I had was some of the print is very small, but overall, this is a great book.

So-So

If you are looking for specifics, you might be disappointed. This book has lots of general and obvious advice (believe in yourself, manage your time, find a mentor, etc) along with inspirational quotes from people like Vince Lombardi and success stories about athletes and others who worked hard and excelled. That stuff is completely useless to me. The second half of the book gets much better. There's some specific information about prospecting techniques, leads, listing presentations and referrals.
