Epidemiologic Methods

This book covers epidemiology beyond the basics. It is at a graduate course level in epidemiology. The book is easy to read for the most part. A general knowledge of biostatistics is helpful. The numerous examples make the concepts easier to understand. There are excercises at the end of every chapter to illustrate the topics further. I recommend the book to anyone who is in interested in an in depth look at epidemiologic methods.

New edition coming out any day

This book is great, but the 2nd edition of this book is coming out between June and August 2014, so it's a waste to buy this one. Excellent reference

This book was included as required reading for my graduate level epidemiology course. I borrowed the book from a friend as a reference during the course but it is so excellent that I now am purchasing it to have. The targeted chapters on case-control studies, RCTs, cohort studies and ecologic studies are all excellent. The examples drive home the points as do the questions at the end of the chapter. A must have for a budding epidemiologist or outcomes researcher.

Poor girl needs to come up for air!

This also was my first try at reading erotica. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I had previously been told that male erotica writers aren't very good, so I was very leary of reading this.
Eveline is the account of a young female's (18+) sexual encounters and deals with many issues that, though I don't agree with, find highly arousing. Some of the issues are incest, rape (though she seemed to enjoy it, so is it truly rape?), voyeurism, plus more. The most arousing thing about this book for me was her taste for big men. She has a variety of lovers with an age group ranging from young to old.
I would like to have seen more detail and feel that romance books are more to my tastes, because they put more feeling into the act. Eveline, on the other hand, was more of a nymphomaniac that wanted it from whomever and whenever she could get it. To each his own...thank goodness, huh?
I am now reading MY SECRET LIFE by "Walter". It is a wonderful story and I am learning quite alot! Check it out, as well!

Victorian era nymphomaniac?

Eveline is a 1987 reprint of a 1904 book of the same name published by Grove Press and now part of the Blue Moon series ....
I only give it 3 stars since it is a very erotic account of the life and mostly erotic experiences of a Victorian lady. The book is written in the first person and generally sticks to Evelines feelings and thoughts and the development of her character ....
To say that she has her mouthfull thru most of the book would be an understatement as Eveline manages to seduce pretty well all the men around her.
Also, the differences of this book and others that are in my library is that the sex is pretty straight by erotic standards. has little same sex escapades and almost no S&M of any kind ...
As a first book into the realm of erotic writing I would recommend it highly ...

Not what I expected

For a book that touts venison as one of the healthiest red meats, I thought it would have healthier recipes. Most of the recipes fit in the category of soup, stew, or casserole. And several list ingredients like prepackaged dry soup mix, refrigerator biscuits, bottled sauces/gravies, processed cheese, and pre mixed seasoning blends. This may be what some people are looking for. I am not interested in tainting my hard earned kill with processed off the shelf pre packaged junk food. Sadly I will keep looking for good, healthy, and tasty venison recipes. I give it 3 stars, because the author has taken the time to put together quite a bit of information, both for cooking and hunting. I also understand that many people are probably looking for these kind of "easy" recipes. I would like to find a book that celebrates the simple taste of the meat without smothering it in some kind of gravy or sauce.

I have tried a lot of the ground venison recipes and they all have been better than expected. The recipes have ways I would never think of to make venison taste great. I have tried other venison cookbooks and they just don't stack up to this one. I was not a big venison fan (didn't grow up eating it) but these recipes make venison taste really good.

A good book with lots of great suggestions that would ensure a happy event.

Renewing Vows seems to be a popular thing these days and this book deals with every aspect of organizing that event. Depending on the budget you have in mind the Renewal of Vows may need every bit as much organizing as a wedding. I found this book by Patricia Bogley to be well thought out with good step by step advice for putting on a great event. She has covered every aspect of what it takes to have a happy renewal of vows. It should be focused more on spiritual bonding of the already married couple and Ms Bosley suggests keeping this as the main focus.
I hadn’t really thought of how much goes into an occasion such as this but the book covers it all. I could see it being a stressful time for some with so much to attend to. The author recommend the reader to remember to keep a good sense of humor when something inevitably go wrong – its really about love and the intention to keep on loving the one you are with. A good book with lots of great suggestions that would ensure a happy event.

Recipes for chicken curry, fish soup or pickled green beans are not likely to quicken many American pulses, but Moroccan lamb sauced with butter, onions and raisins, Burkina Fasoan fish cooked with okra, hot peppers and sweet potato greens, Ghanian palm-nut soup, Tanzanian mango snow and Liberian plantain gingerbread make for enticing departures from daily fare. About the Author
Born in Masatepe, Nicaragua, Sergio Ramrez rose from humble beginnings to the vice presidency of Nicaragua. As an author he has published political essays, short stories, and novels. He is the winner of the Premio Internacional Alfaguara 1998.

A Narrative of an Episode in Nicaragua History

Book Review: Adios Muchachos ( In Spanish) Author: Sergio Ramirez
The Author: Sergio Ramirez is re-known nicaraguan writer, a lawyer, and former member of the sandinista governing Junta throughout the eighties, then vice-president and more recently, chairman of the Sandinista political party. As a novelist he is known as author of several novels, his mosr recent is "Margarita Esta Linda La Mar" (1996), essayist and short story writer.
More than one country in Latina America had a writer for president. Costa Rica, Peru and Cuba (Marti), are only a few to name. Sergio managed to stay at the highest ranking governing circles for almost two decades from 1979 until his resignation in 1999 from his seat as Chairman of the Sandinista powerful political party. This was 3 years after his defeat running for his second term as vice-president candidate in 1996.
This book reveals a credible account from a true insider of the preamble to the war, the glory of victory, and the un-expected political struggle that the Sandinistas went through to stay in power and ultimately lose it. Because the free elections took place in a country that had been for ten years fighting a Contra War which depleted the national budget making it almost impossible to rule.
In his narrative, the protagonists come and go ( or die) like characters in a play. Some manage to come back "with a different costume" like a in giant theater, and history becomes a play with episodes. As Sergio relates, "I am glad I was not born before or after this chapter of history, because I would have missed it". Asked if he has any regrets, Sergio answers: "We did what it was right back then, what happened later we had few idea, how it would be "
Apparently, after reading the Epilog it seems that the true protagonist (if any other than the revolution itself) is Idania ( who was my sister) symbolizing the spirit of sacrifice and heroism that made this chapter of the nicaraguan history possible. Her martyrdom symbolizes the crushing of a dream. I was particularly moved by this. Idania, Araceli and Dora Maria were for the nicaraguan revolution what Haydee Santamaria and Celia Sanchez were for its cuban counterpart.
Sergio concludes his story with an interview with Claudia, the daughter that Idania had left in care of her parents ( and mine) when death came by surprise ( and to her 5 comrades) as member of the Sandinista Commando that was actually running the war in the Western Front in April 1979. The interview takes place in a Deli shop in Arlington, Virginia, an area of town where lobbyists, journalists and essayists meet for lunch and discuss policies and legislation. As she waves good bye before boarding the subway train, the scene symbolizes the return to normal lives of the protagonists of this Episode in the nicaraguan history. Apparently as if nothing has happened in last 20 years. Or has it? Is there a legacy or rewards? Sergio says there is...

The Mistakes of Nicaragua, Retold.

The life of Sergio Ramirez has been an effort to bring about logical, intelligent change to the Central American isthmus and to develop his narrative along revolutionary lines. This book is a prime example of the importance of Sergio as one of the most essential and overlooked authors in Latin American literature. His ability to bring alive the dreams, plights, success and defeat of the Nicaraguan revolution, more than 10 years their electoral downfall, shows how politics and human sensitivity are intertwined in Latin America. His account of the Sandinista revolution is excellent because from its start, he was a player, and although he did not fall within the dogmas of some of his contemporaries, he is not without fault. At its core, his account continues that old school adage "Don't mess with Uncle Sam".

Inmortalización de una época heróica y gloriosa

Aprenderán a querer y servir a Nicaragua, a respetar a todos aquellos héroes y mártires que como Leonel Rugama vivieron vida de santaos y murieron mártires. Las futuras genraciones aprenderán también a valorar y hacer una crítica justa y constructiva por los desatinos, productos de la misma naturaleza humana.
